Isle of Wight Salsa

History

Welcome....

My name is Roderick Parkman. I run and organise "Isle of Wight Salsa". I had been looking over a year for a teacher who would come to the Island to teach. There were many problems with the logistics of getting the teachers to the Island and home again. However, I was very fortunate in meeting Taz & Eva who agreed to support me. I think that they could see that I had a passion for the dance and wanted to give the Islanders a Salsa club that catered for their needs.

On the 26th February 2007, Isle of Wight Salsa has its first dance evening which was a great success. It was great to see some people I had not danced with for some time, including some people who haven't been seen for some time in the IOW salsa scene.

A shines warm-up was followed by an advanced class with Taz & Eva which pushed the level quite high. This was followed by an intermediate level shines and spins class with Taz. Eva gave the beginners a nice introduction to salsa, and everyone agreed the levels of teaching were very high. This was followed by freestyle dancing till late.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported us on our opining night. Thank you also to those very kind and positive comments from so many people.

Since then we have had raised £60 for Comic relief and made Easter bonnets, err, or was that just me? and held our first Rueda! Workshop. With your support we can have many more.

In November 2007 we opened a second Salsa Club in Cowes and a third in Freshwater on in April 2008.
Unfortunately we have had to close these.

At the beginning for 2010 we moved from our original venue to a new home at the Balcony in Ryde. With more seating a better floor and much more room we are able to expand our membership.

Even if you are just visiting the Isle of Wight, you are always welcome at our club.

See you soon

Roderick ………
